Sandra Mueller
Sandra earned her Masters in Occupational Therapy from Trinity Washington University in 2020 and has been a lifelong equestrian, with particular interest in classical dressage. She has a horse of her own and has received acknowledgement for her exceptional volunteerism in other horse-related therapeutic programs before joining our team. Sandra utilizes hippotherapy in her practice which is a specialized treatment tool used by occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech language pathologists. It involves taking advantage of the sensory-motor aspects of horses which aims at improving coordination, postural balance, flexibility, endurance, strength, functional ambulation/gait, sensory processing to tolerate touch and motor plan sequential movements among many other functional goals. Sandra believes that a horse as a therapy tool is obviously also more exciting than a swing or therapy ball, offering opportunities to develop an emotional bond as well as communication and social skills.
