Frequent Questions

Have you ever had a question and didn’t know where to find the answer? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

This section is a compilation of answers to the questions most commonly asked by our constituents. Just start by following one of the links below. If you can’t find the question you wanted to ask, don’t hesitate to contact us.

  1. How do I register?

The registration process varies based on the program you hope to participate in. Please read below to get you started, and use our contact form to get in touch with any questions!

Therapeutic Riding and Beginner Equine Assisted Learning Riding classes can be registered for by visiting Fairfax County's Parktakes website (https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/parktakes) and searching "Equestrian." You will see all available class dates and sessions. We offer classes year round. Theses classes fill very quickly on the opening Parktakes registration day.

Therapeutic Horsemanship, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and Occupational Therapy/Hippotherapy: Please contact us to be directed to the right staff member to determine fit of the service and complete required paperwork for each service.

If you are a case manager with the Community Services Board please contact us so we can assist in the referral for program selection based on goals of the participant. Once a program has been chosen, we will need the family contact shared so that we can send them the required paperwork needed for their program.

  2. How can I get involved?

We’re always on the lookout for individuals like you wanting to get involved. Visit our How To Help section to find out ways to donate or volunteer.

  3. Our organization takes our privacy policy seriously and takes steps to protect and ensure the safety of our supporters. We do not sell or otherwise disclose information about our volunteers or supporters outside of our immediate organization. This policy has no exceptions. We do not sell or exchange your information with any other organizations, public, private or nonprofit. For more detailed information visit our Privacy Policy page.

  4. Are any programs covered by insurance?

SPIRIT does not accept insurance as payment for services. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Occupational Therapy/Hippotherapy may be reimbursable by your insurance. We suggest you check your plan to ensure coverage for reimbursement.
